The Original Cocina Azul opened in 2009, built on the family recipes and New Mexican cooking traditions of Frank Barela Sr. and Evelyn Barela. Today, Frank Jr. and the family continue that tradition at the Original Mountain Road location, serving scratch-made red and green chile, enchiladas, carne adovada, and breakfast favorites.

… can’t believe I’ve missed this gem after coming to Albuquerque for years. The rice and beans complement the dish and the sopaipillas were doughy, chewy, and sweet. Everything was excellent! Do not miss this place.

Wonderful meal! Flavors were absolutely so delicious and nothing like the Mexican food we’ve encountered before! We had the combination plate with brisket and chicken tacos. If in Albuquerque, you have to go!
